You haven't heard of Carnis Immortalis; that’s not surprising. This Garden City band is another one of those Michigan underground death metal bands predominately featured at places like Detroit’s Harpos. Like many, this band has been largely overlooked; but after opening for Cattle Decapitation late last year, and announcing that their first EP is nearing release, it’s about time they get the spotlight.
In the band’s own words “at our core we are an American Death metal band, but we take influence from black metal, thrash metal, technical metal, progressive metal, and even punk rock”. This is nothing new for the area. Most Michigan metal bands are an amalgamation of new and old, resulting in a very mixed sound. Sometimes this is good, sometimes it’s not. From what we’ve heard so far, the group has great promise; we’re looking forward to the band’s EP and future performances. Small venue death metal bands like Carnis Immortalis are what metal is made of.
